STEM Challenge - Can You Design a Paper Plate Marble Maze?

November 27, 2017

Remember pinball machines? They are our inspiration for this week's STEM Challenge.

This week you will create a paper plate marble maze with just a few common craft supplies and a marble.

Are you up for the challenge? Let's design paper plate marble mazes.

What you need...

  • Paper Plates

  • Scissors

  • Construction Paper

  • Tape

  • Markers

  • Marbles

  • Optional:

    • Pipe Cleaners

    • Straws

What you need to do...

  • Start by asking students if they know what pinball machines are.

    • You could have some photos handy to show students what pinball machines are and what types of structures and obstacles they have.

  • Explain to students that this week they will be crafting a marble maze that will resemble a pinball machine.

  • Give each student one paper plate and any other materials you would like for their construction.

  • Tell students that they should create structures and other obstacles for their paper plate marble maze.

  • Let students start creating and testing their paper plate marble maze.

  • Once students are done creating and testing it is fun to have them try out each other's creations.

  • Have students pass around their paper plate marble mazes and share how and why they went about creating what they did.

We would love to see you try this STEM Challenge. Share your results with us through social media!
