Can you create lava? Our STEAM Challenge is a great way to invite students to practice researching and using their imagination, in a way that will get them excited to want to learn more about volcanoes.
For this challenge, students will use a lime and lemon to create lava!
Are you up for the challenge? Do you think you can create lava?
What you need:
Lime or Lemon
Plastic Cup or Plate
½ cup Vinegar
What you need to do…
Cut a lime and lemon in half. Squeeze with your hands and pour the juice into a cup.
Add a spoonful of baking soda, 3-4 drops of food coloring, and a drop of dish soap to the middle of each fruit.
Put the two halves on top of each other on a plate. Pour the juice down the fruit.
Then pour the vinegar onto the fruit.
Ask yourself what is happening? What could happen with other fruits that have juice? Take this idea and use different fruits!
